BTC Deposit Not Credited: Work Through It in Order

A balance that has not moved has a small number of possible causes, and they are distinguishable in a couple of minutes with the transaction reference. This note puts them in the order that resolves fastest, starting with the one that needs no action at all.

The instinct it exists to interrupt is sending again. A second transfer pays a second fee, does nothing for the first, and if both eventually confirm it creates a reconciliation problem on top of the original one.

One note, one problem from the payment side of an account.

First: is the instruction in a block yet

Look the reference up and count confirmations. Zero means the instruction is broadcast and waiting in the queue, offering a payment that has not yet been attractive enough for a block. It is not lost, it is in nobody's custody, and the cashier has nothing to act on because nothing has arrived.

At this stage the only two useful moves are waiting and, where the sending wallet supports it, replacing the instruction with a better-paying version of itself. A replacement competes with the original and only one of them can confirm.

A support request made at this point will be answered with the reference you already have. That is not obstruction; there is genuinely nothing on the operator's side to look at.

Four blocks in a row, the first holding the transfer and each later one adding a confirmation on top of it
A fee buys a place in the first block. The blocks after it are simply waiting.

Second: is it confirmed but still short of the threshold

If confirmations have started accumulating and the balance has not moved, compare the count against the number the cashier says it waits for. A cashier wanting three will not credit at one, and that interval is blocks being produced rather than a decision anybody is taking.

This is also where the balance unit matters. If the account is converted internally, the credited figure will not look like the sent figure even once it lands, and a reader checking for an exact match will conclude nothing arrived.

Nothing here is purchasable. The payment attached to the instruction was spent on inclusion and has no bearing on the blocks that follow it.

Third: did the amount land under the minimum

A cashier credits what arrives. If the delivered figure is below the minimum it credits automatically, the arrival can sit outside the rule, and it will keep sitting there until somebody looks at it.

This is the one case that genuinely needs the support desk, and it is the one where the reference plus the two figures from the wallet make the conversation short. Without them it becomes a conversation about what somebody remembers typing.

A second transfer does not usually fix it, because two arrivals are not combined for the purpose of a minimum unless the cashier says they are. It is worth asking before sending rather than after.

Zero confirmationsWaiting in the queue; nothing for the cashier to do
Some confirmations, no creditBelow the cashier's threshold; keep waiting
Confirmed, still nothingCheck the delivered figure against the minimum
Figures do not resemble each otherThe account may be converted internally
Never the right moveSending the same amount a second time

Fourth: was it the right address at all

An address copied from an old message may still belong to the operator and no longer belong to your account. The instruction then confirms perfectly and credits nobody, which looks identical from the reader's side to every case above.

The reference settles it, because it records the destination. Comparing that destination against the one currently displayed in the cashier takes seconds and is the check that distinguishes a wait from a loss.

If they differ, the conversation with the operator is a different one and the outcome depends entirely on their internal records. Nothing on the chain can be undone, which is why the address on the screen is worth treating as single-use.

The operator counts its deposit minimum after the network fee, so a transfer at the floor can arrive below it.

Once a transfer is in a block, waiting for more confirmations costs nothing and buys nothing.

Questions when a balance has not moved

My transfer shows zero confirmations. What now?
It is waiting in the queue with a payment that has not yet been attractive enough. Wait, or replace it with a better-paying version if the wallet supports that.
Should I send the same amount again?
No. It pays a second fee, does nothing for the first, and if both confirm you have two arrivals to reconcile instead of one.
It is confirmed but my balance is unchanged.
Compare the count against the confirmations the cashier waits for, then compare the delivered figure against the minimum it credits automatically.
What does support actually need from me?
The transaction reference, the amount the wallet said would leave, and the time. Everything else is reconstructible from those three.
